Sagamore Beach Colony Club Day Camp
Camp Guidelines and Policies
The Camp Committee, Camp Director, Assistant Director and
counselors appreciate your compliance with, review of, and
respect for the following:
Suggested Attire:
Attire is casual and campers should dress for athletic activities.
All campers are advised to apply waterproof sunscreen every
day before arriving to camp. All clothing and personal effects
should be labeled with each camper’s name. Campers are
required to wear bathing suits and bring towels for swimming
lessons on Fridays, or every day (if they wish to be part
of the Polar Bear Club). They will also need to bring their
tennis rackets on Mondays and Wednesdays for tennis lessons.
Lunch/Snacks:
Campers should bring lunch with them every day. Refrigeration
is available.
Arrival:
Camp begins promptly at 9:00 AM. Children should not arrive
at camp before 8:45 AM. There is no supervision before this
time. Each morning, the camp will have a morning meeting with
the Camp Director at 9:00 AM.
Dismissal:
Please be prompt in picking up your camper(s) at the end
of camp at 1:00 PM. There will be a $5.00 fee for each camper
picked up more than 20 minutes after 1:00 PM. (Counselors
must be compensated for the supervision.). No camp supervision
is available on the playground after dismissal.
To ensure the continued safety of campers, Dismissal Release
Forms must be completed to designate those specifically authorized
to pick-up your child(ren). If your child is to be dismissed
to a person not listed on the Dismissal Release Form, a note
stating this must be given to the Camp Director that morning.
Vehicle Drop-off And Pick-up:
The Camp Lodge is located on Robinson Road, which is a two-way
street. To facilitate the safe drop-off and pick-up of the
campers from vehicles, drivers must proceed “down”
Robinson Road in the direction of the beach in a single line.
Thus, in the mornings and afternoons, Robinson Road will be
a one-way street. Campers will be received from and/or dismissed
to only one vehicle at a time. This allows traffic to proceed
forward. Also, children should exit and enter cars from doors
on the right side only.
Walkers and Bikers:
Campers who either walk or bike to camp with parental/guardian
assistance will be dismissed to such person(s) at 1:00pm.
Campers who either walk or bike to camp without parental/guardian
assistance will be dismissed at 12:55pm to allow them time
to exit Robinson Road before traffic arrives. To ensure the
continued safety of campers, Dismissal Release Forms for Campers
Walking or Riding Without Parental/Guardian Assistance must
be completed to specifically authorize that your child may
leave the Camp Lodge without parental/guardian assistance.
Health Forms:
All campers must provide a current health certificate signed
by a physician which includes documentation that all immunizations
are up to date. A current health form is dated within 12 months
of the child’s last birthday. Failure to provide a current
health certificate before the start of camp will prohibit
any child from attending the Camp. There will be no exceptions
to this policy
Guests:
A guest is defined to be a house-guest of a registered camper,
who does not meet the membership criteria to be a camper.
Campers may request to bring house-guests to camp if the request
is made at least one week in advance of the visit. Guest invitations
are approved by the Camp Director if the staff to camper ratio
is in compliance with camp policies. The daily camp fee of
$25 per day must be paid in advance of the visit. If the guest
request is approved, the guest MUST complete all registration
documents and provide a current health form before participating
in any camp activities. There will be no exceptions to this
rule.
Director/Counselor Consults:
Parent/guardian questions, suggestions or concerns must
be directed to the Camp Director or a member of the Camp Committee.
In order to ensure proper supervision of all campers and activities,
these discussions need to be scheduled. Morning drop-off and
afternoon pick-up is not the appropriate time. Please contact
the Camp Director, at the camp lodge (833-0059) to schedule
an appointment.
Conduct:
If a camper does not respect the guidance of the counselors,
these disciplinary steps will be followed:
Step 1: Time out for five minutes
Step 2: Time out for the entire activity
Step 3: Return to the camp lodge for consultation with director
Step 4: Contact parent/guardian
Step 5: Possible suspension or expulsion
These are specifically prohibited:
• Corporal punishment, including spanking
• Cruel or severe punishment, humiliation, hazing, or
verbal abuse,
• Denial of food or shelter as a form of punishment,
• Punishment for soiling, wetting or not using the toilet.
Camp Licensing:
The SBCC Day Camp complies with state standards for recreational
camps for children established by the Massachusetts Department
of Public Health (105 CMR 430). The camp is also licensed
by the Bourne Department of Health.
